Can't change back to custom theme from classic theme w/o restarting

    Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1

Hello. I've recently reformatted my computer and since then I've been having this rather annoying problem. When I select classic theme from the personalization menu then try to switch back to my custom theme, the only thing that changes is the color scheme but nothing else after the "Please Wait" dialog. Restarting the computer is the only way to make custom themes work again.

I've tried running the troubleshooter for aero when it happens but it doesn't find any issues.

Some of my games require transparency/aero to be completely off to reduce input delay/other issues. And since I close/open the game sometimes several times, I like to keep it on classic as long as I'm in my gaming session.

Side question: Does anyone know how to make custom log on screen background stick? Mine likes to revert back to default randomly.

Are you trying to use a 3rd party custom theme?

For the logon screen I used Option 1 of this tutorial Log On Screen - Change it have never reverted back.

Yes, 3rd party. This theme worked perfectly fine before reformatting.

Did you use the right 1 x64(64bit) or x86(32bit)?

Did you rerun Windows Experience Index - Update or Refresh Score ?
    If you did then:
Do Option 2 of this tutorial SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker it will not harm any data or programs you have installed it will try to find and repair any corrupt system files that you have. You may need to do this up to 3 times with a reboot after each scan.

Then repatch again Theme - How to Apply Custom Themes
