    Hi jamiem1987

Could you try upping the image again, it's tiny!

You can try deleting the IconCache.db file found here; (hidden files/folder set to show) C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\IconCache.db
Reboot and see if it works!

thanks for the quick response! i have deleted the icon cache numerous times now and its still the same,
they appear ok for a second and when windows is generating the thumbnails for the folders this is when they go small,

    really annoying!

ps also changed the pic link!!

yeah system restore hasnt helped! really strange one, im reluctant to do a clean install so il stick with it for a bit and see if anyone has a solution!

it looks as if its trying to make thumbnails of whatever is inside the folder for the icon

I'll assume that you've checked out the properties of one of the folders, chosen customize and restored defaults?

A long shot i know and probably isn't the solution but it's always worth trying!

Have you considered a repair install?

that didnt sort it unfortunately! i have considered a reinstall but im reluctant to do it as on my laptop it puts all the drivers etc back to default which is a bit of a pain,

on a closer look it seems that its generating thumbnails of the files inside the folder for the icon, its fine if i create a new folder and put no files inside it, the moment i put files in it, the folder icon changes to what the icon of the file was

strrrange!! heres a screenshot of whati mean

See the link i gave above, a repair install does a different job to plain reinstalling
I've seen the exact same thing on my PC before now, it fortunately sorted it's self without any inout from me.
Before a possible repair install, try entering the advanced boot options (prob. F8/F12 etc.) and choose 'Last known good configuration'. that may do the trick.
