    Unlocking 'resistant' files

I have tried in vain, all the methods googling suggested, for removing the lock image from the icons for certain batch files in Win7-Ultimate-32bit. There are very few of these where the lock persists, despite changing 'forceguest' in the registry. For these 'locked' files, their context menu lacks the 'share with' option. Is there a way of 'unlocking' these few 'select' files ?

Have you tried the free software called Unlocker? It seems to have a pretty good success rate. The author of this software also lists several similar programs after his Step 3.

I did try UNLOCKER, and while UNLOCKER has solved OTHER problems for me in the past, this time, the lock remains in the file's icon, even though UNLOCKER allowed the name to be changed.

Sorry as we don't know what all you have tried. have you tried taking ownership of those files? The easy way is with a right click context menu shortcut.

Taking ownership is fraught with uncertainties; but is moot NOW anyway, as the solution is beautifully outlined in Remove the Lock Icon from a Folder in Windows 7

This was just an issue with the icon itself (an annoyance)? Not the functionality/usage of the file? A Guy

Correct - I had noticed NO loss of functionality; but was intrigued/annoyed by the anomaly that just some very few icons had this lock. Incidentally, THOSE files still do not have 'share with' in their context menu.

Ahhh, OK, I thought it was a functionality issue. I could have had an easy answer :)

Unlocker also delivers you a lot of malware. Don't touch it.
