Pinning a file to the taskbar
Hi. Is it possible to pin a specific file to the taskbar like was possible in Windows Professional? I'm only seeing a way of pinning a program to the taskbar. Thank you, Grainne

You can create a shortcut to the file and pin this to the taskbar.
Thare are also the Jump Lists for files for any applications that are pinned, these may be left to cycle through recent files or specific files may be pinned to the jump list
thanks Nigel. That's still not working for me - it seems that pinning a file will really only pin the programme to the taskbar and then I have to right-click the pinned program and choose my specific file from the jump list. Before I was able to pin a file (my Excel timesheet) to the taskbar and that's all I got when I clicked the icon - that specific file. It was a one-click job. Am I missing something? Thanks, Grainne
Ok the one workaround I can think of is to create a folder somewhere, and place a shortcut to your file in it Right click the taskbar and select toolbar - New Toolbar - navigate to your folder and select it.
This will create a new toolbar entry on the taskbar - right clicking will allow you to turn off the Title and Filename Display and set the display to large icons - this is a complex way but will give you a direct link to your file
You can use this method to place more than one shortcut on the taskbar, just unlock the taskbar and adjust the width to your requirements, any shortcuts that will not display will be available as a pop-up
The above image shows a toolbar that contains a single PDF file,2nd icon from left, ( the recycle bin is also placed here by the same method, it's live and saves closing windows to reach the normal one on the desktop)
a nice step by step for the Recycle bin is Here just change the recycle bin for your icon in the instructions
It worked! Thank you so much Nigel, it's great to have it back! Much appreciated, Grainne
