Removing Desktop from: taskbar, alt-tab, win-tab

I'd like to remove the Desktop from the (1) taskbar, and (2) the ALT/WIN+TAB lists. Any way to do either of these?

I use Win+D to access the desktop. This makes the Desktop button on the taskbar superfluous.

As for the ALT+TAB list, I can't think of why Microsoft included the Desktop there. You have a hotkey and a dedicated button you can use to go directly to the Desktop, so why on Earth would you want to cycle to it via ALT+TAB? This just adds unnecessary clutter to these menus, something you have to cycle past every time you use these them, and for no reason. Unless somebody can justify this (I currently view it as a design flaw), I'd like to remove it. :)

Oh, and Windows 7 rocks :)

Hello Mud (and anyone else who is anoyed by the desktop in the alt-tab-menu),

This one worked for me, in order to remove the desktop as a 'running program':

Open Registry Editor by typing "regedit" in Windows Start Menu search box and pressing Enter.

In the Registry Editor, navigate to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER>> Software>> Microsoft>> Windows>> CurrentVersion>> Explorer

In the Explorer folder ("subkey"), create a new DWORD value, named "AltTabSettings".

    (Right-click>> New>> DWORD (32-bit) Value)

Double-click the newly created DWORD value, change it's value to "1" instead of "0", and choose "Hexadecimal".
    Press OK.

As for the win-key: I didn't find any DWORD conceirning that specific key yet

@rafelb's post: this converts the Alt-Tab display to the old XP look (where, coincidentally, the Desktop entry doesn't exist). Is there any way of simply removing the Desktop entry while keeping Win7's Alt-Tab look?

    Edit:
    Okay, apparently it's not possible.
