When I started learning graphics, One of the first educations I have got from Nick that how the layer blend modes changes an image dramatically.

A very minimal example. I made this one, long ago. I still like this background .... where different layers are used in different blend modes that changed the visual effect of the background very nicely.

I cannot complete an image without using various blends.

Chuck. If you are getting serious about graphics and don't want to spend any money on it I strongly suggest you learn GIMP. It is the closest free gfx program to Photoshop. That's the route I took PDN->GIMP->Photoshop.

I guess I'll have to. I'll try some blending stuff with Paint.NET and then I'll work on learning GIMP.

    Thanks for the tips everyone!

If you have the project file saved open it again and save another as a .psd file and put it in a zip folder and upload it
    Cheers.

Looks good, Mike. But I kinda wanted to be able to see the flag.

This sig is a mix of my different interests..

Battlefield 3 Guy, I like FPS games.
City Skyline, It just seemed to fit with the BF3 guy.
The Mustang, It's my favorite car.
The Computer and Monitor, That's actually my set up. An HP w2207h monitor with my PC cased in a Corsair Spec-02.
Snoopy, Well, I think you know.

And then layer 12, the Texas Flag. I was born in Texas. :)

Is there any way you could make it a little more visible?

Oh, yeah. And the explosions also just seemed to fit with BF3 guy.

I started with BF3 guy and then started adding in some more interests.
