Trace bitmap in CD X6 is great for simple images like that. I actually prefer the equivalent feature in Inkscape. It produces better results with more complicated traces. This Millenium Falcon was traced in Inkscape...

Inkscape does a few things better than cd,
Inkscape also has a much better gradient feature,
cd7 is similar but Inkscape still is better at that,
I used the trace in Inkscape too but never really got the hang of that cookie,
It was almost more straight forward doing it manually :)
I might of tampered with a setting that messed it up :/

The only thing I really dislike about Inkscape is the lack of an object manager. CD's object manager makes arranging the z-axis super simple.

For the gimp users out there Gimp 2.8.14 has been released
Has anyone downloaded this version yet, i don't see the 'New Layer' icon any more?
It's there to click but invisible which is annoying, is it a bug or just me?

    Attachment 330809

    Cheers,
    Jamie
Going back to this earlier post... more people have reported the same problems so if you do use Gimp then probably best sticking with 2.8.10 as there are more icons missing in 2.8.14 than in my screenshot.

    Regards,
    Jamie
    If anyone is interested

Gimp 2.8.14.1 has now been released
    - This one fixes the crash on window resize and the missing icons bugs - all by updating the included GTK+ library to 2.24.24.

    Regards,
    Jamie

Yes CorelDRAW sucks at creating icons. There is a GIMP script that will do most of the work of creating the layers for you. It is called Iconify. It is in this script set. http://gimpfx-foundry.sourceforge.net/
