Ive found this, but whenever I click on an .msstyles theme it brings up the windows color and appearance dialog instead of applying the theme. I have uxtheme core installed.
You dont do that There is instruction on the site as well:

    1. Take ownership of aero.msstyles in windows/resources/themes/aero
    2. Rename it to aero.msstyles.green
    3. copy and paste this to that folder
    4. restart

Seems so, yeah Might be because it is the main aero theme, and not a custom one like the ones i make

You're right, it is 1018 and 1021 (1021 being the shiny overlay thingy)

Much appreciated, i can see my progress again in taskbar.

i can seem to get it to work, i don't know why...

I extract the 1018/1021 files as .png format, use Photosop to change color (hue/saturation), save it as .png format, switch theme to win classic, log off, log on, replace 1018/1021 files in Restorator and finally replace aero.msstyles with the modified one...

When i try to apply any aero theme it displays only the Windows classic one, with no aero effects, in fact every theme i choose is transformed in win classic one...?!?!

If i switch back to the original aero.msstyle (green bar) everything is ok...

What am i doing wrong ?!, i even try restarting my rig a couple of times...

just assign the new images with restorator2007. then save as aero.msstyles on your desktop. then go to original aero.msstyles file, take ownership of it (rightclick) and rename to aero.msstyles.bak
then copy the new file from desktop to the folder and reboot.
No need to revert to classic theme or anything. But you NEED to save on desktop as a seperate file, and after taking ownership and renaming the old one, set the new one in place and reboot.

    should work 100%

Very weird. I could give you a copy of my msstyles file, but it has black progressbars and blue taskbar progress. If that suits you, give me a hollar, and you can try my aero.msstyles. Dunno if that'll work though...
