    Notification Area not shown

    Dear W7-Specialists, I use programs which can only be controlled by the "tray icon". Unfortunately the notification area ist not shown. I set the registry key to

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
    "EnableAutoTray"=dword:00000000

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
    "EnableAutoTray"=-

    without success. In the control panel I cannot click on "restore default". "Clock" ist working, but all other system icons are "greyed (blacked) out". The program icons are not shown (cpl) although the programs are running.

    How can I get back the notification area?
    How can I force the "tray icons"?
    If Mr. Redmond does not allow me to display the icons: where can I find them in the system?

    thank you very much in advance regards kotnig

    Typically the setting for enable is 1 not 0. Have you tried setting the key value to 1?

    Dear pbcopter, thank you for your advice. Changing this value to 1 does not change anything.

    Welcome to Seven Forums kotnig. Try the reg file in Option One on this tutorial

    Notification Area - Add or Remove

    If no change, try running the System File Checker

    SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
