Change folder background color for free

I know Folder Marker Pro will do this, but I dont want to pay to change the color of my folders. Anyone have a color folder icon set or icon maker app that they use for this?

Thanks for the link. What I am looking for is a way to colorize the default folder icon so that I can use the same icon with multiple colors. I'm trying to keep track of different types of medical schools that I am applying to, based on my chances of getting accepted at each school, by color. For example yellow represents a high chance, whereas red is a long shot.

I took a screenshot of a folder icon, and used an iconmaker to colorize it, but the results look shotty. It would be nice if the free version of FolderMarker worked in 7, but it doesn't. I can use the blue and black, but also need green, yellow, white, grey, and purple colored folders.

Use iconFX, it's free and works great. I have changed many icons with it, also colours :

Change folder background color for free-desktop1.jpg

Watch the top of the desktop. 5 of the original icons were a different colour. All changed to blue successfully with iconFX.

tip : use colourtools, especially hue/saturation and colorisation...

You can find it easily through google.

I colorized the default win 7 icon in black, blue, red, green, yellow, purple, and grey. For anyone interested I uploaded the archive here

There is a large pack of Win 7 icons in png format here, and you can use IcoFx to colorize them as well.

If the link is down, PM me.

Whatever you do, don't waste time with FolderMarker Pro V3.x. It absoolutely does not work with Windows 7 32-bit, despite what the company says. The program was great with Vista and XP.

I'm still looking for a free or paid download of a program that will, like FolderMarker Pro, let me change colors of file folders in Windows 7 32-bit.

If anyone knows of such a program, please e-mail sdim@yahoo.com

IcoFx rocks and is so easy to use. If you want to change the color of the icon or folder icon, just adjust the hue. IcoFX - The Free Icon Editor
