    Can't open gadgets menu

    Hello everyone:),

I'm having problems with the gadgets menu. Actually when I right click on the desktop then click Gadgets, nothing will happen.

I've searched on the internet and have read someone solved his problem with the same symptom by enabling UAC. But I haven'y touched the UAC and it is always enabled.

    How can I do?

Right click desktop goto view and make sure show desktop gadgets is checked,

If so bring up the run box as admin and type
    %ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe/showGadgets

If it doesnt work open control panal, select all control panel items then program and features goto turn windows features on and off then make sure gadget platform has a check mark.

There is no gadget bar exactly, if you are looking to add gadgets. look in C:\ for the entry sidebar.exe and double-click it.

    Hi,
I solved the problem just by restarting the system.... I also re-installed avast!, but I don't know if it has something to do with the solution.

Anyway, thanks to all of you!

    Still can't open gadgets menu...

OK, so after doing a little research, I have seen that the most popular fix is to change the UAC settings. I have done this. I set it to never and then restarted. That didn't fix it, so I saw another forum that mentioned to set it to the setting right above that; and then restart. Still nothing. The only thing I can think of is that update Tuesday was this week; and of course I updated my system. I haven't changed anything otherwise. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Similar problem, same resolution as previous poster

I had 2 gadgets enabled, calendar and weather.

The weather gadget stopped showing up for no apparent reason. I could not access the Gadget Gallery, nothing happened when I would click on that menu selection.

I moved/modified the calendar gadget and the weather one wasn't anywhere on the desktop (i.e. not hidden beneath the calendar which would have been obvious since it's set to 80% opacity anyway)

Like the above poster, I right clicked on desktop and unchecked View -> Show Desktop Gadgets, verified that no gadgets were present on the desktop and then checked View -> Show Desktop Gadgets.

The weather gadget magically reappeared and I can access Gadget Gallery again.

    This works

I was going crazy trying to figure out why my gadgets weren't showing up and why I couldn't open the gadget window like those above. Like above, I also right-clicked desktop and clicked view. Then disabled gadgets and then re-enabled gadgets and all my gadgets came back. Glad I found this post...
