Who said anything about win defenders software explorer? I said Process Explorer from Sysinternals. And yes, they took out the software explorer from win defender.

    i finally solved this problem.

control panel - internet options - connections tab - LAN settings
    then uncheck automatically detect settings

now they work just fine. it turned out IE wasn't connecting either, but i never knew since i use firefox!

Good news garbanzo. Weird that it hasn't affected many others.

it has affected others, just not here! i was having problems with a 3rd party app (MediaMan) not connecting, which led me to realize IE wasn't connecting either. i went hunting and found posts on another Windows 7 forum about people having the same problem. they didn't have a solution, but that discussion led me to find the one i posted. now MediaMan works, IE connects, and by gadgets are online again.

strange problem indeed! especially since things were working fine a few weeks ago.

anyway, it's nice having the weather widget back. oh and the exchange rate one too, since i get paid in a different currency than the one i spend every day!

    Windows 7 weather gadget

OK, I had a problem with the weather gadget, it would show "Cannot connect to service", then once I tinkered around a bit (using guides researched off the net) it would constantly load but not show the weather.

The solution to my problem was to go into control panel and into regional settings, there change all settings you can see to your native country then I went into "copy settings" in the "administrative" tab in the "Region and Language" settings.

I then proceeded to copy over all the settings to reflect my correct region.

Once all settings copied over to UK (my domain) the weather program kicked in and started to work again.

I tried all sorts of methods as mentioned above but in the end it was something as trivial as regional settings not being copied over TO ALL AREAS OF WINDOWS (It turned out that I had manually changed all the settings over except the Welcome Screen, once I did that using the process above, it worked fine).

I've tried all above "fixes" and none has worked for me. Win 7 has installed in October, so it worked for five months be for it went wacko.
