    Changing My Videos Folder Icon, Hide Recent Folder?

    I was hoping to be able to change the default icon for "My Videos" folder. I have renamed it to "Downloads" to use as my download folder. I was hoping to be able to do this without creating a desktop.ini file. I'm hoping it's a registry entry, or failing that, I could change the icon in the dll, but a registry entry would be a lot easier.

    Also, the "Recent" folder is never used, and I'd like to hide it from the user\recent list.

    I included a picture to make it easier to understand what I'm talking about. I edited out the user name for privacy reasons.

    This for recent: Recent Items - Turn On or Off

    Is the download folder that was a video folder the preexisting video library? If so: Replace Librarie Icons by bluefisch200 on DeviantArt otherwise right click --> properties --> customisation --> change icon

    No, it's the default "My Videos" folder. Using the customize option creates the desktop.ini file. I was hoping to do it without creating that file.

    You need to use resource hacker and modify the icons directly in their associated dependencies, I am pretty sure those icons would be in shell32.dll though I do not know the exact location within there.

    Sorry I was wrong, I looked and couldn't find it there and was working on another project and found it in the registry pointing the imgaeres.dll folders 1301-1313 in Icons and 189 in Icons Group

    Yes, as I said, I can change the icon in the dll as a last resort. I'd prefer not to modify it if at all possible though.

    That's the only way I can see to do it, not sure how to do this through regedit. Best of luck, maybe someone else can help out. You can also try an icon changer program CustomizerGod - door2windows at least then you're not doing it manually.

    Update: I see now you can do this in the registry, You can redirect where it points to. In addition to this I am not sure what relies on the location of icons, and what the effects of changing it are. Though you can give it a try;

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{18989B1D-99B5-455B-841C-AB7C74E4DDFC}

    This refers to my comment about about imageres.dll it points to the icon group. So to change the icon you would have to point it to something that matches that criteria, eg. has the icons from the icon group as well. Would probably be easier to just change the dll rather then repointing it another resource file.
