    Program on startup

I have a seemingly simple problem, but the solution evades me. I would like a particular program to run when the computer starts. The program is TeaTimer.exe, a system protector that I've been using for years.

It seems simple to just put a shortcut to the program in the startup folder, like I've done with all my previous PCs. But this time the program will not run on startup. I have it set to run as administrator if that would make any difference.

The program runs just fine when I manually start it, there are no problems in running the program and I've checked for compatibility issues, for which there are none. it's just for some reason, Windows 7 will not run the program even with a shortcut in the startup folder... and won't tell me why.

If you have any idea what might fix this, any help is appreciated!

Are you sure you aren't already running it?

    From the Spybot S&D tutorial:

You start Resident TeaTimer by clicking on ToolsResident on the left navigation bar (therefore Spybot-S&D has to run in Advanced Mode). There you can tick the checkboxes next to Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) active in order to activate TeaTimer.

    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/tutorial/index.html
Check the Tools and see if it is already set to be resident. If it is, there is no need to try to run it from the Startup menu.

Also, check the running processes and services to see if it is in one of them already.

I put programs in the Startup folder, and everything starts.

    it's not a problem with Windows 7.

Thank you TheSchaft, I've checked out all that stuff, but still to no avail.
    I guess it's a problem with Windows 7.
Oh well, opening the program manually each time the computer starts won't be too much of a hassle I suppose.

Sorry it doesn't work - I have used SpyBot S&D, but never the TeaTimer part, it always seemed a tad flaky.

You might want to try dropping the author a line with your symptoms and see if there is an alternate solution.

It is not just Teatimer. Additionally, I have had the same experience with Microsoft's own program, Process Explorer (originally from Sysinternals that Microsoft bought out). I have placed the shortcut in the startup folder, and I have set the program to run with administrative privileges, but it will not start up during boot-up. I have to manually start it and get the UAC prompt every time (UAC never learns... Or is it a Microsoft symptom? They never learnt either, even after the UAC debacle in Vista...)

I believe this is a problem with UAC and Win 7. Not only teatimer, even rainmeter doesnt start on startup.
I believe, when you install the program, which starts at boot, you have to right click the exe and select run as admin. I have not tried this. But should work.

Unfortunately, it does not. I tried that with Process Explorer - I elevated the privilege of the main executable hoping that it would run during start up. Alas! To no avail.

Any kind of Local Security Policy applied? How about HIPS or realtime antivirus?

None that I could see. The next thing I have to try is to disable the UAC altogether and see if it will recognize the startup programs then. Will post back.
