orphaned icons

I have been playing about with IconPackager. While there were some really nice icon packs I didnt really find any that I wanted to keep and so uninstalled IP.

However it hasnt restored all the default icons. Is there a way I can do this?

Did you try a System Restore?

Hi Joan, yes it does.

Swarfega, you may try deleting the iconcache file and restart the PC to see if it helps.
Go to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local

Well I deleted that file and also ran ccleaner but old icons are still there.

The IconCache repair isn't working for this because that is not what it does. Your best bet is to restore default icons with the app that changed them - before you uninstall the app.

You could try a re-install and then redefine each offending icon.

Your "default" icon set no longer has a true MS default.

Thanks for explaining that Antman, I only made the suggestion because it was the first thing that came to mind when there's talk about the icons playing up

Hi Nick,

Unless IconPackager modified the .dll files that store the images, you might see if downloading and merging the default file types in the tutorial below can restore the default icon for that file type.

Default File Type Associations - Restore

Hope this helps,
Shawn
