Pinning to Start

There's something that I don't get about this process. If I click on the Window's orb, then All Programs, then Windows Update, pin to taskbar or pin to start is not an option on the right click whereas they are options on certain other programs. Two questions:

1. Why do some have the option and others not?

2. How do I get Window's Update to stick on Start?

Thanks,

Mark

1. System design

2. Create a shortcut (in a permanent stealthy location), pin the shortcut.

Ah, at the risk of sounding dense...how does one create a shortcut when the right click menu does not include same and [more importantly] you do not know the Properties 'Open file location' for Start nor the 'Start in' for Start?

My Control Panel is a cascaded menu in the Start Menu.

Start
Control Panel
Windows Update (right click)
Choose Pin To Start Menu or Create Shortcut

For #2, you should be able to press and hold Shift + right click on the Windows Update shortcut in the Start Menu, and select Pin to Start Menu. If you do not have a Windows Update shortcut in the All Programs area, then you can use the tutorial below to create one.

Hope this helps,

Pinning programs in the start menu
I noticed every time I right click on an app via "all programs" or through the search box in the windows start menu, for around a second the right click context automatically closes giving me no chance to choose from any of the options from there. What might be the problem?

Pinning "New" and "Open" Word document to start menu
Using Word 2007, I am unable to pin the "New" and "Open" Word Document to the Start Menu. I was able to do this in XP and Vista. I go to "All Programs" and can load Word but cannot find the options new/open. In Word I go to "Word Options" and it is not listed there either. Thanks.
