have you tried starting DWM through CMD yet? or even using CMD to restart the process?

I gave that a try awhile back by using "net start uxsms" and that yielded nothing. Aero didn't even flash. What command in CMD allows you to restart a process? Or do you mean kill it and start it again?

end the process (taskkill) and start it again.

I did the "net start uxsms" command first, and it said the specified service was already running. I also looked in the Services window to be sure, and it was started and set to auto. But when I tried "taskkill /im dwm.exe", (this was done in an admin CMD) CMD returned that the process wasn't found. "Tasklist" didn't show it, and neither did Task Manager, not even while showing processes from all users. I tried manually launching it from System32 and that bore no fruit, so back in the Services window I both stopped and manually started the service, as well as just clicking restart, but that didn't make DWM pop up in Task Manager. The process appeared after I restarted, but that's always been the way that worked out. And a side note, stopping the service after rebooting and then starting it again works like it should, killing and starting Aero like it should, but not on a cold boot, only on a warm one.

Not that I don't trust your links, but couldn't I get a fresh DWM from the installation disc as well?

I decided to run this tool and under the EXE files scanned, none of them were DWM. :/

I extracted and replaced DWM.exe, but (and I'm surprised at this, honest) the basic borders still appear upon a cold boot. It still says that uxsms is running, (Task Manager) however, if I right click on it and tell it to go to the associated process, none of them are highlighted. I still get the same two errors as before if I stop the service and the start it again, and Aero is briefly seen but quickly goes back off just like before...
