Windows 7 Pro desktop background fade won't work.

(reposting in a more appropriate category)

When I select a theme containing multiple images, the transition is a hard cut instead of a fade/dissolve.

"Animate controls and elements inside windows" is checked, and all Visual Effects options are checked, and "Turn off all unnecessary animations" is not checked. Running the Aero troubleshooter does not help. Any other ideas on settings I can check?

Running Windows 7 pro. Not running antivirus.

have you tried checking and unchecking "Turn off all unnecessary animations" that seems to work occasionally with this sort of thing.

Thanks. Yes, as I mentioned, I tried that, and also rebooting, but I still cant get the fade to work.

This issue appears on many forums, and the same two solutions are always mentioned, about checking "Animate controls and elements inside windows" and unchecking "Turn off all unnecessary animations." But these do not help in my case. I assume there must be a third applicable setting somewhere.

try the Enable Desktop Composition setting in that same control panel, from what I've read it could be the source of your trouble.

Thanks, but all the VFX options are enabled to no avail.
