I have to agree, WMP screws things up and so far I havn't gotten any answers on how to fix it. Anyway, mind explaining your question a bit more?

Yes, of course, you can dig around in the Registry - I am fond of doing that myself.

A lot of people would rather not.

    Excellent my feelings also.

You can also uninstall WMP by going to Start > Run and type optionalfeatures under the Media Features section.

I don't think that really answers the question (i need help with this as well )
the question is, how do i remove items from the list that pops up when i select "open with" when i am, for instance, opening a video and i want to choose which program i want to use to open it?

I have vlc, wmp, and some others and i want to remove a couple of those options just from the menu. not delete the whole program.

    thanks

If the program SIW2 listed above does not list the items you want to remove, you can do it manually as mentioned. It does require editing the registry, so always back up before trying.

Remove Programs from the Open With Menu in Explorer
