Icons stopped showing photo or image

    Hello!
I've always had my computer set to where the graphics and images show a small picture of whatever it was. A week ago it stopped doing that. I've done all of the following, to no avail:

1.Under Folder Options/View I made sure its set to view thumbnails. Clicked it on and off several times.
    2. Did a disk cleanup
3.Rebuilt the Icon cache and restarted
    4. CCcleaner
    5. Reset file associations
    6.Completed sfc/scannow no issues
    7. Thumbnail cache clear and reset
    8. Reset the visual effects settings

I'm not sure what else to do. The thumbnails show fine when larger, its just the icon that stopped showing correctly.

Attached a small image of two on my desktop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Nancy

    Hello Nanrector,

Runs Antivirus and Malware FULL scans.

Which Antivirus and Malware programs do you have installed?

Have you tried System Restore, choose a restore point dated before the issue started.

    Hey John,
I use AVG free and Windows Defender. My system restore has not worked right since i bought the computer and I've yet to have them fix it so I can't do that at the moment. I will say that I "think" this problem started after I installed a piece of graphic software called Make the Cut. I uninstalled it right away but it could have been the cause. Though I'm just guessing.

I'll run full scans and get back to you.

    Appreciate the help.

I ran both programs, which do run automatically on a regular basis, and there were no problems.

It's jpg and png. They are associated with the Windows Photo Viewer. I've done testing and changed the program associated with them. It changes the icon to whatever programs I switch to rather than a small image. Even though in folder options its set to not show the icons.

    Hi,
On that little screen shot it's tough to tell what size icons are being used
Medium is the smallest it takes to produce a thumbnail image.

    @nanrector,

"I've always had my computer set to where the graphics and images show a small picture of whatever it was. A week ago it stopped doing that."

Please, explain in more detail what you mean by "set to where the graphics and images show small pictures"

Are you talking about a monitor screen resolution setting, or a Window Explorer view settings?

To change the size of the Icons in Windows Explorer, open Explorer by clicking on the yellow folder Icon located on the left side of the taskbar at the bottom of your screen.

On the top right side of the screen in Windows Explorer, on the Command Bar, you should see a small picture framed with a down arrow to the right of it. This is where you change the view size of the icons. You can either click on the picture to change the view or click on the arrow there to open a settings window. In the settings window move the slider around by pressing and holding the left mouse button on the slider. You can also click on any folder to open Pictures, Documents, Videos, or Music. Once inside any one of the folders, go back to the view setting and select the size you want the icons in that folder to display. Note: An alternate way to change icon size is to click on the area you want to change the view and with your scroll mouse, move the wheel forward or backwards to change the size.

You can also upload a screenshots of what you'd like us to see to further explain your issue.

In your thread title you say, "stopped showing photo and image." Do you mean all you see now are blank picture frames in place of colored icons.

I've always kept it set in Window Explorer view settings. Under Tools/Folder/View I have "always show icons never thumbnail' deselected.

Here is what it shows. This is from my desktop which is where I have the problem. These would always show a small image of whatever the graphic or picture was. Now its just the basic icons.

    Hi,
I believe they are just too small personally
The icon is about the same size as the type "kid" and smaller than "barn"
Hold down the CTRL key and use your mouse wheel to Increase the thumbnails size.
