Windows 7: Prevent Apps From Auto Launching Browser (Pale Moon / Firefox)

Prevent Apps From Auto Launching Browser (Pale Moon / Firefox)

In Firefox/Pale Moon you can add the -profilemanager flag to your shortcut so that any time you launch it, before the browser actually runs it prompts you for a profile.

I like this a lot, it means I never get my browser opening unexpectedly. If I don't want to see the page being triggered by the installation/uninstallation of a third party program, (I just see a small 'Choose Profile' window) I just click Close and the browser doesn't open.

Problem is, some apps seem to access the executable directly and bypass the shortcut with the -profilemanager flag (probably via Default Programs setting).

So I started mucking about in the registry. I searched and modified any instance of palemoon.exe (or firefox.exe) that did not have anything to do with default icons, and added -profilemanager to the string.

It works, but I'm obviously adding the flag to too many registry keys, and it produces errors when trying to open http shortcuts I have on my Desktop.

Any chance someone might be willing to help me determine exactly which entries I need to modify to avoid getting errors?

Thanks in advance.

*Update : I think I've found all the right registry keys, but it's only working properly (no errors) in Win7 32bit. I'll post once I've had the time to get it working properly under W7-64.

Set up Yahoo using Pale Moon
Firefox made the executive decision not to let me connect to Yahoo anymore. Tried doing the "sync" routine, but made no difference. So now I am trying to get Yahoo to work with Pale Moon. Is there a tutorial for this? I have the latest version of PM. Thank you.

Pale Moon Hangs On Several Web Sites
Especially on Yahoo Finance and MarketWatch. Curious if anyone else is having, or had, the same problem and what you did to correct it. I have a feeling it may be Yahoo themselves, but I'd sure like to know for sure.

Pale Moon Browser
The Pale Moon browser is built on Firefox source code. After installation, I launched Pale Moon and it opened with my Firefox customized menu bar, bookmarks, add-ons, extensions, start pages. I've only been using it a few hours. Other than it loading much faster than Firefox, I haven't noticed...
