Disable file name auto selection
XP didn't do this - auto select a file name when you saved as - and I had it nailed back then. I could just sweep in, select part or whole of the file name and change it. Now, for me, the auto-select just gets in the way. I've tried for many years to get used to it but cannot. It has been a constant irritation all these years and I wish I could disable it.
Mostly it's just a distraction but it becomes a real obstruction when using some of my important apps - eg when saving in CorelDraw. If you just want to adjust the file name, which is the case 99% of the time, you first have to click on the file name to make the selection go away. It doesn't always work and I often find myself clicking multiple times before I can do what used to be one swift, smooth action. I would love nothing more than to disable auto-selection. Is there a registry hack someone knows? I will show my gratitude in a substantial way. YES, THERE IS INDEED A REWARD. It's not money but I'm sure you will love it. I'll do one of these for you: ![]() |
