How do I start Task Manager (and other apps) always maximized?

I just reinstalled Win7 a couple of days ago, and I'm working on reinstalling all of my software, getting system settings back to what I prefer, etc.

On my previous Win7 installation, Task Manager would always start maximized when I invoked it using CTRL+SHIFT+ESC (that's the key combo I've always used). I'm not sure if the maximized window is something that I forced through a registry setting, or if Windows just "remembered" the last state of the app.

My question is: Is there a way to start (some) apps so that they're always maximized? I'm familiar with how to accomplish this using a shortcut, but I can't find a method for executables (.exe files, rather than .lnk files).

In most cases if you open an app make it full screen then close it then it will come back full screen

That's actually my problem, and I apologize for not being more explicit. Here's an example of what happens:

    1) Start Task Manager with CTRL+SHIFT+ESC
    2) Task Manager starts; I maximize the window
    3) Do whatever I need to in TM, then close it while it's maximized
    4) Start Task Manager again; the window is no longer maximized - now it's at some default size

Additional research on my part didn't yield anything new. So, thanks for the link - the first suggestion in the thread was the one I went with: stretch the task manager window to the size I want it (almost maximized), and it'll continue to open at that size.

    Thanks for your help!!

For all people who are still struggling with this mess!
I finally found a solution to ALWAYS open ALL windows file explorer windows maximized:

    • Create a shortcut of your explorer.exe file located in your windows folder C:\Windows\explorer.exe
    • Drag&Drop the shortcut to your taskbar
    • In the target line, at the end add the following " --start-maximized" without ""
    • Additionally i set the "Run" option to maximized

After this I consistently got the best result. No matter what window size explorer was at any time, including multiple windows not maximized and with different window sizes, all windows always opened maximized!

    I had one issue though:
As a starting folder explorer always opened the My Documents folder. With editing the explorer run line to this
    • %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,::{20d04fe0-3aea-1069-a2d8-08002b30309d} --start-maximized

i solved the problem. I could not find out why though.

    I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU :) !!!
