Display all Icons in Desktop Folders as "Medium Icons"' (by Default)?

    Hi Everyone,

What is the best way to get Windows 7 Professional to display all the icons inside the folders on my desktop as "Medium Icons" (view settings) by default, unless I specifically indicate that I want certain icons displayed in another way?

Also, I use the file management program XYplorer as my primary file management program, so I am hoping that whatever I do to have all the icons in folders on my desktop display as "Medium Icons" (view settings, as default) will also force them to show as "Medium Icons" within the XYplorer program, as well, if at all possible.

Thanks so much for your help with this issue.

    Hello CFguy, :)

You could use the method in the tutorial below to set a default folder view and apply it to all folders. This will not affect XYplorer though.

    Hi Brink,

Thanks so much for your reply to my post.

I have tried using "libraries" to manipulate specific folder views, but have run into problems. For example, I went in and chose "medium" icon views for the "Videos" library category. However, when I then go and designate specific desktop folders as being part of the "video" library, I seem to initially get all those icons showing as "large" view, and furthermore after a reboot these folder icons are back to "details" view (although still specifying that they are part of the "videos" library. It has been very frustrating.

Doing a "Google" search on this issue, I cam across a freeware utility program called "ShellFolderFix" (here on the "sevenforums") ShellFolderFix - Manage folder window positions/size - Windows 7 Help Forums.

I do currently use Windows 7 as my OS. Do you think that this program would solve my problem by allowing me to customize the view of specific folder's (in this case all desktop folders) view choice without the use of "libraries", and then allow Windows to permanently remember these folder view settings (even after reboot)?

    Thanks for your help,
    Cfguy

It would certainly be worth a try to see if it may.
