Can't change system font bc of AVG leftovers

Hi everyone. (Win 7 Pro 64 HP 6300)
Preface: I have set up my computer meticulously for a very long time and been really careful and am not going to reinstall windows because it is functioning properly and all the customization I have done would take about another year to complete again. So I need you guys to be creative and think outside the box for fixes bc a clean slate is not really an option. I am lucky it is working properly, as I am usually a glitch magnet.

A long time ago I installed AVG system tuneup.
Yes, I realize that was stupid.
It had some customization options I wanted to take advantage of but I didn't realize how adept it was at worming its way into my system files and hanging on for dear life.
I have gotten rid of pretty much everything that allows it to run any processes, but some of the system changes are still applied.
That's fine, I don't mind, the app changed things I would probably not have been able to change any other way (at least I tell myself that).

    So here's my problem:
I don't remember super-well, I have epilepsy and it messes with my head so bear with me. I THINK I used avg to change my system font. I have tried going into the registry and changing the fonts in
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes
But I have had no luck. At this point I am not even doing this just for looks - although I will be improving them if I can get it right.

I have a My Little Pony theme going on (don't judge). So I picked Equestria as the font initially. Which was a bad choice because it apparently runs small and is really hard on the eyes - reading it is a chore and I think I need glasses anyways.

So I got a better font that's still theme appropriate.
But I still can't change it.
Even running the reg file to reset the system fonts didn't work, so I know it is being overridden somewhere.
The only other idea I have is to go into the registry and find where all the fonts are listed and change the target for equestria to the font file I would prefer using. Except I don't think I would ever be able to use equestria for anything again....unless I reinstalled it under a different name?

So, yeah, that's where I am at.

    Any ideas?
