    Location of Windows system icons

    Hi,

I'm trying to change the system icons. I changed all the icons from imageres.dll though lot's of icons in control panel (large view) are probably located somewhere else.

Can someone please help me with this ?

    Thanks.

Thanks. All done. Although I couldn't find/locate the ones specifically for the Control Panel large view. Any ideas ?

Sometimes, icons are embedded in a .exe rather than a .dll. Try looking for .exe files you think will have the icons.

Control panel apps are not handled consistently. Starting with Vista most of them are in their own DLL while others are in CPL files in the system32 folder. Some CPL files contain several. Some I believe are in EXE files. Most DLL files use the old 8.3 short file names while most control panel apps have longer names so locating them is likely to be difficult. I expect the control panel icons will be with the apps, wherever they are. The registry will have the location information but I don't know where. You won't find official documentation regarding this. Once something is documented it is difficult to change without causing compatibility problems with older applications.

You can have your own folder with icons from various icon sites, and substitute any of those. I have a folder with about 200.
