How do I add a new folder to Start menu?

I would like to rearrange the Start folder and add some new folders to my liking then move existing ones into the new ones. In pPrevious versions of Windows it was easy but haven't found a way to add a new folder - anyone know how to do this?

Start Menu items, files and folders, are stored in C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs. You can open Start Menu folder also by clicking and right clicking All Programs, then choosing Open All Users.

Just create a new folder or copy an existing one here.

I have tried this but the folder opens as a explorer window and not a menu like in XP. I find the W7 Start menu difficult to customise and not very satisfactory.

On my system these folders are not showing all of the programs and folders in my Start Menu. For example some items only show up when I go to C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\, others will only appear in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\. (I've got show hidden files enabled in each case.)

Is there a single folder where one can view and manage EVERYTHING in the Start Menu's All Programs from one location?

Hello PDE, and welcome to Seven Forums.

For the Start Menu there is two locations. One for only the current logged in user (C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs), and one shared by all user accounts (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs). There's not one for both though.

    Hope this helps,
