Removing Unwanted Fonts to speed up the system

    Greetings,

As most of you probably know removing unwanted Fonts can greatly speed up the system. I'm using Windows 7 and would like some advice as to which Fonts I should remove.

Actually I don't plan on removing them, all I want to do is move them to another location, out of the Fonts folder.

If I can squeeze every tweak in order to improve my system performance then I'm on it !

    Thoughts and advice ?

    Thanks

    Jordan

    Hello Jordan,

    Welcome to 7 Forums.

You no longer have to move them. You can rt. click on any font in the font folder and select show or hide. Hidden fonts don't load when a program is opened, which, as I understand it, is when a long fonts list slows things down.

Generally it is safe to delete the default 'hidden' fonts in the folder. More here. Fonts - Delete

    Hope this helps.

Thanks garysgold, been using 7 since the Nov 2008, and did not know you could hide the fonts. Usually I don't bother with them, albeit armed with this knowledge maybe it is time to reduce my font base. :)

IMHO, you need a very substantial difference in the number of fonts to see any difference. This only affects the loading of programs that use the fonts like a word processor. Hiding 10 or 20 fonts isn't noticeable here. On the other hand having 500 extra fonts installed (and showing) just because you like them may cause a noticeable difference.
