How to disable the taskbar thumbnail previews?

I've searched a lot about how to do it, but I coudn't find it anywhere. I want to disable this preview:

    Things that I've already tryied:

    - Disabling Aero Peek. It just disables the visualization of the windows, when I put my mouse over the thumbnail preview. Besides that, it disable the "Show Desktop" function of the button in the right of the Taskbar (the mouse over function, not the click one), which I do like!

    - Enabling the option on Gpedit.msc>User Config>Admininstrative Layouts>Start Menu And Taskbar>Disable Taskbar Thumbnails (I'm not sure if it's this exactly, I translated from portuguese by myself), but this only works in Vista.

The only thing that works is using the classic themes, but I don't want to use them... they're uggly!

What else can I do to try to get rid of it? I can't get used to it, it annoys me a lot, and there's no real use for me, since I don't enable the grouping itens option.

Sorry for my english, and thanks in advance (:

If you have Business, Ultimate or Enterprise version, you can use a group policy. Run gpedit.msc, then go to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar. Enable the "Turn off taskbar thumbnails" option.

For Home versions (or if the group policy doesn't quite do what you want), try this tool: http://rammichael.com/?proj=29

As I said, I've already tryied that. It only works in Vista (that's even written in this option properties).

Using gpedit to disable the thumbnail preview seem to be not working in windows 7...

    Alternative:

You can however disable the taskbar thumbnail feature (sort of) in Windows 7 using a registry edit.
What we going to do is to adjust the taskbar preview hover time..... the longer we delay the time it create an impression that the preview thumbnail is being turn off.

Taskbar Thumbnail Previews - Enable or Disable

    1. Click Start, type Regedit and press {ENTER}

    2. Navigate to the following location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Advanced

    3. Create a new DWORD (32-bit) value named ExtendedUIHoverTime

    4. Double-click ExtendedUIHoverTime and click Decimal

    5. To increase the hover delay to 5 seconds, type 5000. Type 10000 for 10 seconds...

    6. Logoff and login back to take effect..

Both solutions worked fine, thanks guys! (Sorry for the late answer)

The only problem with the program is that it have to be opened all the time for the feature to work. So I'm using the delay trick

    Thank you.
