Stick with Windows 7 shell, move the taskbar to the top, and install Rocketdock instead.

no, i love the 7 desktop environment, but i like tweaking custom shells so i was gonna make another account i could just play with for it. i don't like rocketdock though for some reason. maybe i'll just install linux as a second os and tweak it.

I have Cairo and have used it since it's initial alpha release. It is really nice. However, it is not a complete shell. NOTHING is replaced. You have to run Cairo on top of explorer. I suggest downloading it and trying it out. But by no means will it replace what you currently have.

Cairo is pretty and has great ideas but it is far from ready. It is very nice and quite stable but I wouldn't use it daily as windows 7 is so nice, the features in the current build of Cairo aren't really needed since you have to run explorer anyway

wow,, if it has to be ran on top of explorer it wouldn't interest me, that pretty much defeats the purpose of running a shell- which i guess at this early stage cairo isn't really a shell yet. but thanks for the info.
