Taskbar Icons - Hide Labels, Never Combine

Sorry if this is already been posted, I did a search and couldn't find it.
A lot of of people seem to be wanting to have the labels on the taskbar buttons hidden but without combining. This option is not availble in the settings.

Here is all you have to do:

    1. Run Registry Editor (RegEdit).
    2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Desktop\WindowMetrics
    3. Right click on a blank space on the right pane, select New, then String Value.
    4. Name the new string value as MinWidth.
    5. Double click on “MinWidth”, and set its value data as one of the following, depending on Taskbar is using normal (large) icons or small Icons:

    Normal icons: 56
    Small icons: 40

    OR

You could just simply download reg file from below which will do it instanly for you

The major problem I have with Win7 after 5 months is the way taskbar buttons are highlighted instead of being pushed. I have trouble figuring out which window is active when I ungroup the windows because the highlight simply can not distinguish between them having a glassy monitor and glassy visual effects. I certainly do not want to go to Win2k visual style but if there was a way to fix the taskbar coloring problem that would be great!

    Hi Pandy90,

Thanks for this solution! Could you please mark this thread 'Solved' as explained here when you get a chance? And if possible, fix the title to read "Taskbar Icons - Hide Labels, Never Combine" for search indexing purposes

Ok, this is good, but is there a way to have this AND :

KEEP the "labels" in the AERO PREVIEW when Hovering just like when your're in "always combine , hide labels" (so that you can know which icons is which in case you have a lot opened )

Problem with the solution is : you just change icon size but the "label" doesn't go back where it is supposed (this would be a much more powerful tweak ... still I don't understand that the option isn't available basically with windows 7).

I've searched everywhere and didn't found a thing ... I can't believe I'm the only one who thinks this would be useful ... just like when you have to switch from 2-3 Excel and Word documents

    Thanks
