    List View Column Width

I need to display more columns of information so that I can bounce back and forth through my files in a large folder, in vista I could display 10-12 columns of files per screen, but in 7 I can only display 4-5 columns because it auto adjusts to the length of the file name. I don't need the whole file name, just the first 8-10 charachters. Any help or Ideas

I know this thread is old, but since I have the same question and found this thread and was then disappointed, let's make it official: The answer is almost certainly "No."

The two previous responses are unhelpful. The OP was explicit regarding his Folder View: it is "List", while the answers that were given only work for Details view. So the hope that there is some Win7 hack that will allow you to fix column size in listview seems to be No; otherwise by now it would have been posted here somewhere.

I continue to be amazed at how non-configurable Redmond made Win7, putting such an un-poweruser-friendly GUI on top of a nicely streamlined under-the-hood revision of Vista.
