    Changing explorerframe.dll, nothing happens

Well, the title describes my problem. First of all, when I try to paste a custom ExplorerFrame.dll into the system32 folder, I get the error message that the file is being used. I then rename the original Explorerframe.dll to Explorerframe.old, and then it works. I restart my computer, but nothing has happened. It does not change. I have tried several custom explorerframe.dll files. Someone please help me. I have Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate.

Edit: When I think about it, I recall that I replaced the ExplorerFrame.dll file in C:\Windows\ as well as the ExplorerFrame.dll in C:\Windows\system32\ . Could that be the problem? I read in the guide afterwards that I was supposed to replace only the ExplorerFrame.dll inside the system32 folder.

First make sure you are logged in as an administrator.
Turn off UAC completely (it might interfere).

Now implement this regfile into your registry :

    http://www.blogsdna.com/wp-content/u...eownership.zip

You then have the option "take ownership" in your rightclick menu.

Now, to make it clear, only the file in system32 needs to be replaced.
Leave the other one as is...

Now rightclick explorerframe.dll (in system32) and choose take "ownership".
Now rightclick it again and rename it to explorerframe.dll.backup

Now copy/paste your custom explorerframe.dll to the folder and reboot.

Sorry to say it, but that's exactly what I've been doing.. The problem is, that I don't see any changes. It does not work. Is this problem caused by the fact that I have replaced the ExplorerFrame.dll inside the windows folder? I'm not talking about the one inside the system32 folder.

Be warned; I just did this "successfully" (meaning something did happen... )

It BSOD'd my system every time on restart, forced me to reinstall Vista, and now I can't find my 7 install disc. So if I were you, I would not even mess with this file.

And yes, I did it right.

Jeez, I have been so stupid. I know what the problem was; I did not apply the custom theme. Everything is solved now. Sorry

That shouldnt mean anything for the .dll to work correctly

Aye, just the Explorerframe.dll. I also tried running explorer.exe through the command prompt on the recovery tools menu, and it gave me the error message that explorerframe was missing...

I've found the disc, and currently installing now. :)

Hmm, maybe not. But it worked once I applied the theme.. So I guess it wasn't really anything wrong with the .dll
