    Darn Shortcut Arrows.

I followed Brink's tutorial to remove shortcut arrows with Win 7 64bit RC, and it worked great. Since RC expired, I loaded my new OEM version of Win 7 64bit Ultimate from New Egg and followed the tutorial and I'm having issues. What happens is, instead of removing the arrow, it places the default "no clue file" on top of the icon. What I mean by "no clue file" is, say you download a .pdf and dont have Adobe Reader, it gives a generic icon. The funny thing is it shows the real icon but with the generic one ontop. Just in case it matters, when I right click the blank icon it does not give me the block option. Please help. I despise the arrows!
    Thanks,
    Beebe

    Hello Beebe,

Try the tutorial step by step again double checking to see if a mistake may have been made somewhere. It should work for you. :)

Now Im really stumped. I thought because I did not extract to the desktop, that may be my issue. So I D/L'ed it again and extracted to the desktop. Followed the tutorial with the blank.ico and merged the 64bit .reg string again, and still no go. So just for grins I merged the 32bit string, and BAM it worked.

I may be stupid, but my OEM disc (From New Egg) says 64bit Software. Then when I go to "Computer" (R click) properties, it says "System type: 64-bit Operating System, yet the 32bit string worked?

I'm glad it worked, but I'm worried something is just not adding up.

Umm, I'm not sure why either, but I'm glad to hear that you got it sorted. Strange.

Odd, odd, odd. I went ahead and reinstalled Win 7, and applied the 64bit .reg string, and WOOT! it worked. Thanks Shawn! I love this site. If you've noticed I only have 7 posts. Becaus 99% of the time I find exactly what I need without posting. This site is so easy to navigate.

There`s a program called Vista Visual Master that will remove shortcut arrows.

FrameworkX Vista Shortcut Manager 2.0 (new name for new build, formally FxVisor 1.3).

Works fine and can also remove the Shortcut Text in the name

You need grab build for 32bit or 64bit.
