Changing icons to image files (.jpg or .png)

    Hey,

I've been trying to change the icons of a few of my applications, but if I right click their shortcuts and go on properties > Change Icon, I only seem to be able to select actual Icon files. I want to be able to use .png files as icons, is there any way to do this?

    Thanks

In windows, you are not allowed to apply .png files as inons , only the.ico files :) . You may apply the .png files as icons in docks (rocketdock, objectdock ,etc) or avedesk etc applications.

But if you have some favorite .png files, and you just want to apply them as icons, try IcoFX - The Free Icon Editor - Download to convert them in .ico format and apply them.

Worked a treat, thank you very much.

What I was doing exactly was using the docklet to stack icons on RocketDock, but in order to change the icons of programs that came up in that stack, I have to change the programs icon itself rather than changing an icon on rocketdock, hence the need to create the .ico files.

    Thanks again :)

Obviously easier, but not flexible. It provides the icons only in 16x16. Whereas IcoFX can make it upto 256x256

Yeah that larger icons was really what i needed, when I'm using rocketdock it zooms in on the icons quite a lot so that software has been useful :)
