Windows 7 Language Problem !!! please help

Ok, I bought a new DELL PC here in Sweden but I am English and while my Swedish skills are improving daily, it is very hard work with a computer, especially with a new OS to suddenly not understand most of the messages and menu items. You see, the PC came installed with the Swedish language windows. When I go to the place in clocks, languages etc, the bit where you usually see the language change/install new languages is empty, the help link there discusses LIPs etc, but comically the link then goes to microsoft.com with some weird search string that has nothing to do with languages at all.

At some point I found an English exe that seemed correct for my Windows 7 64 bit, but when I extracted the exe an "lp.cab" file popped out and then vanished before my eyes. I now wonder if that was me not opening the exe file in some kind of admin mode, anyway I deleted that file in annoyance and now cannot find where I got it from!

I cannot believe it is such a big deal and there is not a windows update or control panel single click option to "change language to X". I assume this must be some kind of comedy anti piracy measure?

The DVD I get with the PC I can boot from but when I tried to do that attempting a reinstall with options for english, it didnt seem to work properly just kept telling me to restart again without DVD in drive, then it complained about older or newer versions or something

    Aaarrrgghhhh!!!!!

    I have seen those pages
Vistalizator - change display language in Windows Vista and Windows 7
Vistalizator - change display language in Windows Vista and Windows 7

but am not really sure I want to go ahead until I am clear what's going on, in particular how to know what exact version and SP of Windows 7 I have etc

Can someone please have the patience to give me a clear step by step way to collect the information I need and proceed with a way to try and set the OS to English

    cheers

    Hi Lee and welcome

There is one key bit of info we need. What version (ultimate, pro, home, etc) do you have?

I just wanted to say I fixed it, I dont have email working so can someone tell the guy at the vistalisor site that the download links of the English and Greek exe files that open out into cab files are MIXED UP!!!!
I took a chance on trying the greek link cab file and hey presto, English! I highly recommend using the vistalisor program as well, worked a treat! just point to a lp.cab file, it tells you what language it is, checks file and then you can install it or not
