    Desktop gone black??

i had the windows basic theme activated. This included the background image that was blue with the four coloured windows symbol in the middle.

    However, its gone black.

i right clicked on the desktop, clicked personalize. then clicked on the 'desktop background' button. The window that came up was empty, all the pictures that used to be there are not visible. They're still there, i can click on them, but i can't see the images. and if i change the background to a new picture, the desktop remains black.

    any ideas?

thanks for the reply, however, that didnt help me.

could it be a virus? or possibly a spyware/anti-virus program of mine that has made this change??

What antispyware/antivirus do you have installed?
    Do you have MalwarebytesAntimalware? Malwarebytes.org
I would try that if you don't have it already.

i should also note that when i right-click on a desktop item and choose to delete it, the confirmation window that pops up has an error in it as well. Usually, the confirmation window would show a picture of the program or the file image. So for example, if a create a notepad txt file and place it on the desktop, then try to delete it, it the confirmation window will have a black space in it as well. I'm pretty sure that confirmation window should pop up with a notepad file image instead of a black space...

i'm very confused, does any body have any ideas? some other things i can check on?

    thanks

I would try this tutorial SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to find and fix any corrupt files.
