No, in XP files have the proper order. I use that format to name my images so I know they're wrong in Seven

I just tested it on XP SP3 and the sort order is the same "bad" order as 7... wonder if SP 2 is different from SP3?

There were BIG changes to how Explorer works in SP3...

[Edit]Yup, found an XP SP 2 machine and the bug is NOT THERE. The sorting bug was introduced in XP SP3 and is perpetuated all the way through Windows 7. Nice... [/edit]

I don't think that that list of files would show it. You need one file in there with no spaces. like just "MCZ" and the question is, should that srt before or after all the other MCZ* files? on SP 2 (assuming the names are actually MCZ*.jpg) MCZ will be before and on SP3 it will be after.

Not sure those file names show the sorting issue you first brought up, I was just testing with "A.txt" "A 2.txt" and "A Modified.txt".

The Q is, if you had a single MMZ file, would it sort at the front or the back of the other MMZ * files? (Assiming they are really called MMZ.jpg etc)

There could be other sorting differences as well but I was just sticking with the original example.

    Oops, sorry, partial double post

Ok maybe the screenshot I picked was a bad idea but I have a folder with:
    Ada.jpg
    Ada 2.jpg
    Ada Artwork.jpg
    and they sort like this:
    Ada 2.jpg
    Ada Artwork.jpg
    Ada.jpg
I realized of the worng order with that set of images.

Well I just tested it out on my current linux dev box and sort of amazingly it sorts:

    Ada 2.jpg
    Ada Artwork.jpg
    Ada.jpg

Maybe there is some sort of international standard on sorting order that windows now conforms to. But it doesn't really make sense to me logically. :)

Checked on wikipedia to see if there was an standard or something and nothing, I asked to see i there was a registry hack or something but I guess I'll just have to rename my images.
    Anyways thanks.
