User Folders - Restore Default Location Issue

    Hello all
Having "lost" several Windows 7 user files, the special ones with Location tabs, I have followed Brink's tutorial to recreate them: Contacts, My Music and My Pictures.

My Music has worked - thanks to Brink! It is back in the user folders and has a Location tab (though does not show up in the right pane when I click on Music on the left despite being there on the naviagtion...).

When I download and run the files for My Pictures or Contacts the message says location updated. However, when I enter the elevated command prompt the message returned says "file not found". It expects to find a My Pictures folder present in the user folders.

Can someone please explain what I am doing wrongly? Note that I did previously as instructed delete, after backing it up, a My Pictures folder which did not have a Location tab.

    Cheers - and here's hoping!

    Follow-up Points

Checking with RegEdit, I can see that the path, even after using the Registry Download in the tutorial, is for My Pictures:

    Users\User\My Pictures\Pictures

The path for the recreated My Music says:

Users\User\Documents\Music - however it is showing on WE as in the Music Library!

    Windsorian,

At this point, I think it would be much easier for you to just create a new administrator account, copy any files you want to keep from these user folders over to your new account. Be sure to also copy over the Start Menu All Program shortcuts from the old user account to your new account as well.

Next, delete the old account from within the new account after everything checks out.

    Adding New User Account

    Shawn/Brink

Thanks for taking the time to respond again! I will take your advice and create a new user account which I presume gives me a clean sheet and all the correct user folders...

Is it simply any and all shortcuts attached to my current user account that need to be copied over from the Start Menu, i.e. not any of the folders or their contents: Accessories, Admin Tools etc. I have not consciously created any shortcuts as yet -this is almost a brand new machine: I think what is present would be as a result of Acer loading and setting up the machine.

    Cheers

    You're welcome Windsorian.

The default Start Menu shortcuts will automatically be recreated in the new account, so you would just need to copy over any installed program shortcuts and any that you added. :)

    Return of User Folders

    Brink

Amazingly my user folders - like Contacts - have turned up again. I had restarted several times as advised in the tutorial but had had little success other than with My Music. Having not logged on for 3 days, they appear to be back with Location tabs etc, as per the tutorial.

    One or two questions though:
    1. My Pictures is present in the User Folders. However, it is not showing under Pictures on either the left or right panes in WE. How can it be made to reappear?
    2. My Music is present in the User Folders. It is also present under Music in the left pane of WE. Music indicates that on the right that it holds folders in 2 locations but shows only Public Music below. How can this be changed?

Thanks Brink for getting me back my folders. These questions seem minor in comparison!

    Cheers
    Brendan :)

    You're welcome Brendan.

I'm assuming that you mean in the Libraries location for these. If so, then these two tutorials can help show you how to.

    Restore missing Library:
    Libraries - Restore Default

Include missing user folder into it's Library:
    Library - Include a Folder
