If you put your mouse on the gadget you will see a little key wrench appear on
the right of it, if you click on it a dialog box will open where you can put in your
e-mail account, set the control interval and the notification sound.
At the bottom there is even a help option to set it up.

It also works with Windows Vista.
Thank You. BUT - I don't see where I can specify how to notify me (what sound to use, audio or visual)
And can't see where to tell this program what program to open up when I press on whatever. Will this install under Windows 7 at all?? Like I said: THIS IS NOT IT

    But very thank you!!

In your first post you asked for a gadget that would open your default mail client
and that's what this gadget does.
I can see you set the mailtone so you know how to set it to what sound it will use.
The gadget works perfectly under Windows 7 and Vista.

But if it's not what you're looking for, you'll have to search for another gadget.

Thanx. That’s exactly what I'm doing right now. And the gadget you offered me, is not it. So my search continues……

I agree here. Also I assume clicking the envelope would open the client but don't know for sure. Also if it's like other gadgets, if the sounds that come with it are not what you want, add them. If it's not in the code to pick them up in the menulist when adding them, replace the originals with what you want but rename them with the original name. If you're really into, open up the code files and edit the additional sounds into the menulist.

Have you tried installing your Vista mail gadget in compatability mode for Vista in win7 ?
    No I haven't.
    How do I do that???

It says that this capatable with Windows Vista
    Code:

NOTE: Sorry, this version works with 32-bit versions of Vista only.

if you havent figured this out yet. what you can do is download the flash support gadget. it allows you to run the 32bit gadgets but runs your 64bit gadgets in 32bit. it has a restore button so you can put back to 64bit. i use it when i use my pandora or other 32bit gadgets.
