    Ok, sorry for the confuse...
So did you made it graphically, by editing the image in Windows Syle Builder? Or another way?

ColorFill option in WSB. Do I need to make it an image?

    Yes, i think so...
But first have a look in the properties, there's a "color/transparentcolor" but i don't know about this property.
My method is to edit the image in the panel section so i can set my transparency exactly as i wish
and apply the properties described above in the menu section...

Oops, sorry but it's a bit confused for me...
Could you please be just a little clearer cause i'm lost...
Where did you add color? To your theme? And the code i gave doesn't make the theme appear white...? Is that the issue?
And you would like the detailled way to make your left side of start menu transparent...
Is that right, two requests, so...

Edit : Maybe you can add some images of your problem...
Edit 2 : One thing, according to me, is that you have to copy your theme file and folder in the windows/resources folder (C:\Windows\Resources\Themes)
cause it is the path ordered by the "xxxx.theme" file, see the second line in the pic 2 of post #7...
Logically it could'nt work properly if you apply it from the desktop... But maybe i'm wrong...
Left side transparent is the one I'm looking for. I added a color background to it way back yonder a long time ago. Instead of the default white, I made more of a white cream color. Yes, I know about adding it to resources/theme. Most of the time, I only add it there when I see that my edits have worked.
    Thanks

You need to give your images some transparency at
Start Menu > Panels > Aero > Top > ProgramsList
Start Menu > Panels > Aero > Top > ProgramsListExtended
just did what scoopeeedoo said to do
    hope this helps

I had a look at that Mac theme you said had the shadow and it still doesn't have a proper shadow like normal windows, he just added the shadow to the start menu image but there is still a blur effect behind the shadow when it gets applied so there is no trick to it, it's just not possible to add a proper shadow for the start menu.

And yes if you want to have a transparent start menu your images need to be transparent to start off with.

Yeah I know that and thats what am trying to do aswell

My image also has a drop shadow but when used in the theme it shows patchy border instead of smooth shadow as shown in these pictures

i want to know the settings that will will make it look like the second image

I have tried to replace the start menu image in about 15 themes and it appears patchy in all except that Mac theme so there must be some setting that is required to make it work

I used to help themers debug alot of problems with early Firefox Themes. One thing that helped other than trial and error was to take the two cascading style sheets and use an app to compare the two and see what the differences were. I'm not to up and up on WSB and don't particualrly like it but if it had an option to export to a file for comparison/differences it might help. I doubt if it does but just wanted to mention just in case.

Thanks Bongo and Mark. I will keep this in mind for the future. Presently I'm happy with the solid color background but will eventually change just for the experience as well as an alternate style. I will ask a favor if someone can do it for me, make the semi transparent images that I would need and post here. I have PSP over in XP but probably will not boot back into it for another week or so. I haven't installed PSP in Win 7 because my drive space is limited at the moment. I really need another drive or if possible, shrink the XP partition and expand Win 7 which I'm sure isn't possible so more than likely will need another drive.
    Thanks
