    Windows 7 Aero Compatibility

Hey, im new here on the forums.
I joined in hope of someone answering my one question :)

I have recently downloaded the Windows 7 RC, mainly for the areo visuals etc.
BUT i cannot seem to enable them.
I have tried all the hacks out there on the internet and cannot seem to get it to work.
I have also updated my driver etc.

    My PC Specs:
    AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+ 2.0 GHz
    512mb RAM
Nvidia GeForce Mx 440 with agp8x
    Windows 7

My question is, with my current hardware, is there anyway to get aero to work?
I have previously had vista and i got aero to work somehow, but i cant remember. lol
    Thanks in advance :)

Hi lukeau, welcome to the forums.

What memory has you GFX card got (min required is 128MB)? If you run the WEI (Windows Experience Index) what is the base score you get. WEI needs to be 2.0 or above for Windows to deem you worthy of Aero. See the screenshots i've provided for the registry entry for visual effects & what the default (enabled) setting should be.

    Hope this helps :)

Have you got a screenshot you can upload of your WEI score? What is causing the 1.0?

If you look here - GeForce4 MX | GeForce MX - you will see that your MAX video memory is 64MB which if you managed to get Aero working then it'll struggle.

    hmm okay.
but i do remember when i had aero working on vista it didnt struggle much at all.

I dont really mind about the memory resources it takes, as long as i have it.

    any suggestions to get it?
    im completely bummed.
