JBMicron 36x Controller - No Drives Found

I have tried no less than 5 driver versions - everything from the ones included on the original CD (which got me the farthest, surprisingly) to the latest WHQL Vista x64 and and set more recent than them. No luck.

I mostly get an error stating the driver could not be loaded. The original drivers actually let me come close to finishing the install but would blue screen upon reboot.

I did a search and read somewhere that one must choose AHCI for it to work but I don't have that option in the bios. It's IDE or Raid for me.

Board in question is an ECS KA3 MVP w/ ATI 580x Chipset and JMB 36x. System has 2x 640GB WD drives in Raid 0 - split in 2 partitions. Sometimes a drive would show one partition or none. Only once did it show both. Strange.

    Ideas?

The temporary solution seems to be to break the raid array and run in native IDE mode.

So now I need to weigh running Vista and keeping the array or splitting the drives and running Windows 7. This is an HTPC. Guess I'll have to read a bit more and see what W7 brings to the Media Center party before deciding.

Thanks for the reply (and the link) however I have tried those to no avail. Everything's up and running well enough now without raid so that will have to do for the time being it seems.

Raid selection will give you AHCI, just do not create any Raid arrays. Raid selection uses AHCI as the protocol for the SATA controller. I used Raid selection on one motherboard in one of my boxes without setting up an array to get AHCI.

Right - but the issue is, as soon as you select Raid in the bios, the windows install thinks it needs drivers to detect the drives. I was left with no choice but selecting Native IDE Mode.

    No love with x86 either

So things weren't working well in the X64 side of things and I don't have time to troubleshoot much. I just want a working HTPC.

I decided to format and thought I would try RAID again but with 32bit drivers. JMicron has even gotten their 2nd latest drivers WHQL certified but they still won't work. I can get as far as seeing the array, but not creating a partition on it. Sigh.

Guess it's time to split it up again. I'm starting to question why I moved from Vista on my HTPC...

JMicron had MAJOR Vista problems also. I have set my BIOS to ACHI only, NO RAID. used F6 to install SATA/spec IDE device drivers. in Vista and Win7 - works great.
have all required drivers on 1. floppy 2. usb (flash)

PS: what is a HTPC. Half time ?

HTPC = Home Theatre PC :)

Unfortunately my motherboard does not have an AHCI setting. I have the choice of RAID, IDE Mode or disabled.

Looks like it's IDE mode and no RAID until W7/JMicron gets their act together.

I love how "HTPC" is a glorified way of saying PVR.
