    Philips ToUcam PRO driver

    Hi,

I spent the whole afternoon trying to find a solution to get a driver for my webcam on W7 HP.

I saw immediately that philips wanted me to spend extra money to buy a new cam, but I am not easy to give up

So , I looked on the web for alternatives and found this.

Now, the problem is that once I get to the end of the process, I get an error and I think it is due to the fact that I cannot disable the automatic driver installation or better, I did, but when I plugin the webcam, the system searches for the driver and obviously cannot find one.

To be clear, I went into Device Installation Settings and checked "never install driver software from windows update", but it still continues to look for it in the C drive!

In addition, I cannot change the group policy settings because this function is disabled in W7 HP.

How can I get in a situation where I plug in my webcam and after the system finds out a new device is installed, kindly ask me what I want to do??

    Thanks for your help!

    Alex

    Welcome to the forum,

Here's a couple tutorials that might help,

Drivers - Turn Off Automatic Driver Installation

Driver Install - Add Hardware Wizard

i just had the same problems with my "Philips ToUcam Pro - PCVC740K" and successfully implemented the following solution:

just flash the firmware of a more recent philips webcam into your toucam and use the driv€rs for the new model.
the basic steps are as follows:

    • get the tool "WcRmac" (twirg) and run it on windows xp
    • dump the current firmware of your toucam 740K to the file system (as backup)
    • now flash the firmware of the 900NC to the webcam (e.g. "spc900nc.bin")
    • get the latest driv€rs for the 900NC from the philips web site
    • done :)

i'm not going to duplicate the exact steps here as there are sevaral guides on the web, already:

the whole procedure sounds a bit crazy. also because the external case of those two cams looks extremely different. see attached images.
but the internal hardware is more or less the same.

it worked for me. and it worked for many users.

    cheers, francoiste
