    Hello shaun166
    I have acer aspire 5741g.
My personal opinion is let your computer works with its own factory BIOS. Yes it is true that you may have a problem after upgrading you BIOS.

So, your BIOS is optimally fit to your notebook parameters, after upgarding BIOS you may get an additional configurations which will cause you problem.

Probably the Acer site will give the reason for the suggested bios update.

As long as you are capable of following instructions carefully and precisely, then always update your bios when a bios update is available.

Sometimes a bios update fixes only a minor problem, but usually the bios update is intended to fix a potentially major problem. Manufacturers do not release bios updates willy-nilly.

I second karlsnooks for that, Acer is enough kind to provide in general, a highlight pop-up windows, the kind of updates are inside the new bios.

I suggest you to download it and you can wait a little before install to feel more confident with it, and after some questions asked.

    I downloaded the latest bios update(version 2.03)
The "read me" only have this instruction..

    Code:
    [SOP]
    1. Windows flash: Please click "KALG0203.exe" to update bios.
And is there any possibility that bios update will fail? If will what will happen to my com?

The very best qualified to answer you question work for ACER.

You choices are 1) ask them,
    2) just do it (which assuming you dp not interrrupt the procedure and do no power off you computer unless the program tells you to power off.

If that was mine, I would
    1. disconnect all usb devices,
    2. remove all cd/dvd discs,
    3. disconnect from the internet,
    4. disconnect from any local net,
    5. disconnect form any router,
    6. exit from all programs that are running,
    7. TURN OFF MY ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM,
    8. disconnect any printers,
    9. disconnect any and everything.

You get the idea, then and only then, would I run the bios update.
