Intel graphics driver stops working ONLY after startup!

Hey, guys!

I'm having a few problems with my Asus U30Jc-A1 laptop I just bought. This model has hybrid graphics (nVidia Optimus), that means there are both integrated and dedicated graphics processors inside.

The Intel graphics driver sometimes crashes, and it only happens during or after the startup/boot process, with the pop-up message saying that "the driver has stopped working and has been recovered". When that happens, the Windows welcome screen starts blinking and the loading wheel starts spinning slowly.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 that came bundled with it. I already did 2 fresh installs from the recovery partition. I also updated both nVidia and Intel drivers to the latest version.

Any ideas? It seems something's wrong with the power management, but I'm not sure...

Please, help me! Thank you!

One person commented " the latest Intel drivers fix GRID and DiRT 2; Fallout 3 is hard-coded to not like Intel it appears, and the hacked d3d.dll still crashes after 20-40 seconds for me. So they're better than a month ago but still need work"

another comment "
hi all, since I updated to the new drivers my u30jc ramdomly freezes and sometines I get a BSOD and then windows reboot winth a low resolution and no GPU under control panel."

As bad as this is to say, what if you loaded an older driver?

I doubt it, because the graphics driver is crashing. I think your best bet would be to do what lemur said, roll back the driver and see if that helps

I tried updating the Intel drivers and the motherboard BIOS, but it keeps crashing. :/

Should I try downgrading the nVidia drivers?

Hi,

I think you should re-install the drivers of the graphic cards
When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

Ok, I tried removing both nVidia and Intel drivers with Driver Sweeper, and reinstalling them. I even updated the BIOS version, but nothing worked.

I did another fresh Windows install right now from the recovery partition. I won't install/remove/update anything this time. If it still crashes, then I'm screwed up! :)

Ok, three more Windows fresh installs and the same thing happens every time. I even tried using a Windows 7 retail disc this time.

This must be a hardware-related problem, or maybe something driver-related that Intel or nVidia must fix. I'm really disappointed with ASUS. This is already the second defective laptop I get within the last 12 months (the first one was a HP), I think I'll never hesitate to buy a Mac again.

Seriously, Windows 7 is just a great piece of software, I love using it, but it seems like you can't get any decent hardware these days, they all suck!!! I can't trust any brand from now on.

Thanks for the help, guys! :) Now I'll try sending an e-mail to Intel, nVidia and ASUS to see what they have to say. I can't get a replacement because I bought this in Canada a few weeks ago, and I'm already in my home country (Brazil) by now.
