I am now running my long defunct Canon Canoscan FS2710 on its original SCSI card; and using Hamrick's modern scanner driver, the original being obsolete, without a hitch.

I downloaded the driver files provided by ETHE on Nov 2012 and followed the enhanced directions from jpwoolley on Jul 2017 (thank you both very much!) to get my Agfa Duoscan Hid and Nikon LS2000 working with an Adaptec 2906 control board under Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. The elevated command (pnputil.exe -a djsvs.inf) reported that the driver was added successfully, and it was present in the list of drivers in Device Manager. However, I received the following in trying to install the driver for the Adaptec 2906:

Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while trying to install it.
ADAPTEC AIC-7850 PCI SCSI Controller
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

I tried installing it with the SCSI devices active and then with them off - same result. Looking up the message seems to indicate a problem with the hardware, firmware or driver. Can anyone advise me whether there is a path through this obstacle?

If not, there was a post by lepetomane from Mar 2017 recommending the Adaptec 29160N Ultra SCSI as a possible solution to drive older SCSI scanners like mine. This card apparently has a driver compatible with Windows 7 64-bit, and it has a 50-pin external port, which is what my scanners use. Is this a better solution or even a possible solution to make my old scanners work?

To be honest, I had all but given up trying to get my old scanners working with Win 7 64, and I'm elated that there seems to be at least one, maybe two, possible ways to do this. As a last resort, I can resurrect my XP computer to use as an interface, but I would prefer to leave it resting in peace.

Thanks SIW2! I downloaded and unzipped the file you provided, then went through the same procedure I did with the one from ETHE. I see what you mean about your *.inf file being more extensive. Since my card is an AVA 2906 I tried to assign it the driver named "Adaptec AHA-29xxC/AVA-29xx (AIC 7850 PCI SCSI Controller Emulated"). Unfortunately, I got the same Code 10 error, and there is a yellow "!" next to the device in the Device Manager window.

Should I have unassigned the previous driver from my SCSI card before adding and assigning the one you sent? Another thought: Do I need to manually assign an IRQ to this controller? I very much appreciate your help.

Adaptec AVA-2902/2904/2906/2910 (SUCCESSFULLY TESTED)

Vuescan, Adaptec SCSI Controller, Driver: 64 bit Windows 7 / Windows 8

It should work.

Maybe uninstall whatever is currently in device manager.

Then try installing the driver I uploaded.

Perhaps dism++ will install it successfully

Muskoka District in Ontario, Canada, to our family's cottage, built by my grandparents over a hundred years ago. Very nice, and a real time warp back to a simpler point in history! The isolation and beauty is rejuvenating! Thanks again, SIW2!
