    Driver for printer brother HL-1070

    Hello,
Am trying to install my printer brother HL-1070.
Brother indicates that a driver can be found through Windows Updates for the HL-1060. HL-1070 or 1060, it is basically the same so that would be fine for me.
Only if I follow the instructions for using Windows Updates I do not get any printers on the list of available printers. None at all.
If I go the other way (troubleshooting the unspecified printer) windows tries to get a driver for HL-1070 and can't find it.
How can I get windows to look for the HL-1060 driver ???? Or where can I get hold of the driver... if microsoft has it ?
I trust this will get sorted out cause there are so many knowledgeable and helpful people here... thanks for sharing your solutions :)

    Give this a shot

    How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
    - compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
    - visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
    - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver
    - compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
    - - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
    - The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
    - - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html
To remove any left over driver remnants, especially from graphics cards, use driver sweeper

    Hi icacream,

You could try downloading the drivers from

Brother HL-1070 series - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

and run the main setup with compatability for XP as they seem to be old drivers. Once installed, run windows update to see if there are any updates available.

    Hope it helps :)

    Hello !
I knew it would get sorted out.....
My problem was due to bad instructions on the compatibility page on brother-usa (http://www.brother-usa.com/lp/windows7compatibility.aspx#WinUpdate)
They say to select "add a network, wireless etc" printer.
    And I did.
    And it did not work.

Contacted brother in Sweden. Sweden is the country where you get answers, not just ready copy/paste stuff. They actually know to read a querry and answer it .
    (That's probably why I married a Swede !!!! )
I live in France and in Germany and here such things just do not happen...

Anyway, it's enough to select "Add a local printer" and everything goes just fine...
In case it can be useful for anybody else.
And thanks to those who tried to help me here !
    Have a fine day ! :)

I think you misunderstood the Windows Update part. You should have connected the printer, and then run Windows Update, checking the Optional Downloads section. Windows Update has a huge amount of printer drivers, and supports some printers that even Vista didn't. Future reference, I guess, since you do have it working.

Thanks DeaconFrost, I had connected the printer (that's why I could try troubleshooting) but I followed too blindly the instructions from the brother site.
I could not populate my printers list because I was hiting (hitting?) the wrong button (as per instructions) and this is what the nice people in Sweden told me... Should I found it out myself of course... Will next time (probably... hmmm)

    hello jumbo
as I said I simply picked up the driver for the 1060 here:

but did not follow their instructions.

instead I hit "add a local printer" and all went fine...
so what exactly is not working for you ?

    hi jumbo
unfortunately having succeeded installing my printer does not make me a geek capable of helping with problems....

when you say your printer does not work, what happens exactly ?

I give you the link again (it's the compatibility page) but for me the link in my last message in this thread works fine...

    here's the link again :

    good luck !
