    WiFi driver question

    I have an Acer Aspire 1800 that I installed Windows 7 RC onto. I was completely impressed with the ease of the installation and how it seemed to find a driver for everything on my laptop. Well almost everything. Apparently the Os can't find a driver for my wifi and the manufacturer doesn't seem to want to help.

    Has anyone else used this particular laptop and ahd any luck? I hate that the only thing not having a driver in the Device Manager is the WiFi.

    I have installed the 7 RC on my HP desktop, and my 2 HP laptops. All have wifi and I had no install problems and my networking works better than it did with the 7 Beta.

    You didn't say what your old OS was. If it was XP try to find the Vista driver for you laptop. If it was Vista try the XP drivers. I had Vista in all my machines. I have 3 more machines (2 laptop and 1 desktop) that will get 7 when it becomes public. AND I LIKED Vista....

    I had XP installed originally. After I got my new desktop, I used my laptop as an ubuntu linux laptop for awhile till Windows 7 came out. I've looked for Vista drivers for my particular laptop with no luck (Acer support would never reply to my emails) and I tried to reinstall the XP driver but it errord out before it had a chance to start.

    Thanks but I already knew about that site. The driver I need is a Vista driver for;
    FoxCom WLAN driver 2.23.8.2004

    The .zip for this driver includes a folder for Windows 2K and XP. It won't install when I try it on the Windows 7.

    Resolved

    Thanks for all the help. I got the XP driver to work just fine. Instead of running the install, which I was trying to do, I;
    1. went into device manager
    2. right clicked on the ethernet connection in question
    3. selected "update drivers"
    4. chose to browse my computer for the drivers
    5. went to where I had unzipped the file and selected the XP folder
    6. clicked okay and followed the rest of the directions.
    After install, wifi came right up, found all the available networks and I just selected mine and logged into it.

    Sweet, Windows 7 RC is fully functional on the laptop that Vista said was not good enough.
