    This is for Vista, but see if this will help you.

    How do I find System Protection

    Method #1:
    Press the Windows key + Pause/Break
    With the System Properties window open, click the System Protection tab

    Method #2:
    Go to Start
    Right click My Computer
    Select Properties
    Select the System Protection tab

    Method #3:
    Go to Start
    Select Control Panel
    Select System and Maintenance
    Select System
    Select System Protection from the left pane
      My Computer

    I wish I could offer some help, but I'm more hardware oriented.
    One observation for the future tho. Never use auto updating or 3rd party driver updaters. If you do not know what to update on your own, it shouldn't be messed with. I only use manual updates. I always watch the process, when theres an issue I stop the process there.

    With my XP machine, I was able to gain access to the sys restore files with recovery console and some DOS entries. But I had a disk. It was basically getting certain files to ram which would go around the OS thru the DOS directory. It was a bit of a process but it got me in, if I thought it would work for you..............................
